This is the same guy who keeps submitting disparaging jokes about pipers to the monthly newsletter.  Hmmmm! You be the judge.
Retired since 1997, after 30 years as a patrol sergeant with the VPD, Gary was raised, and educated in Vancouver.  He marched behind the Vancouver Police Band in the 60's and early 70's, and began his extensive collection of pipe band LP's, tapes, and CD's at that time
Unable to play with the police band due to shift work, he joined Branch 17, Courtenay Legion Pipe Band as their bass drummer upon retirement.
He credits Jack Bode ex RCAF Pipe band, and Drum Major as his first instructor, and has played with the Courtenay Legion, Comox Society, Port Alberni, and since September 2007, Campbell River.
He has lived in Campbell River with his partner and soul mate Lenore, for 6 years.
His current hobbies are oil painting, (see self-portrait above), and collecting Militaria.
He competed in 9 World Police & Fire Games winning many medals, mostly gold, and was a member of the World Record setting team in 1993.  He travelled all of North America, Australia, (twice), & Sweden, specializing in competitive shooting.
